Optical Bonding Technology Improves Display Readability
Optical bonding technology refers to the process of injecting resin between the touch glass and the LCD display to enhance readability and durability. Optical lamination options keep the display sharp and vibrant in high humidity or bright sunlight conditions. Eliminating the air gap between the cover glass and the display keeps dust and moisture out, preventing condensation on the display surface. Additionally, optical bonding improves display contrast and readability in bright environments by reducing internal reflections between the cover glass and the display.
Better optical performance
Reduced reflections – Depending on the application, surface reflections may be slightly disturbing to safety concerns. Dashboard and navigation displays must be glare-free and easy to read when operating any vehicle, boat or aircraft. Environments with high ambient lighting can cause internal and external reflections that can compromise the visual quality of the screen. With anti-glare and anti-reflective top surface enhancements, external light reflections are reduced without additional power consumption. Air gaps can cause internal reflections between the display and touchscreen. Optical bonding fills gaps and eliminates internal light reflections.
Dust, Moisture and Condensation – Air gaps are also susceptible to contaminants such as dirt, dust, moisture and condensation. In rugged instruments such as agricultural equipment or military equipment, the potential for environmental contamination increases. The presence of contaminants increases the risk of failure of the tape or other materials used in perimeter bonding. Optical bonding eliminates the possibility of contamination and condensation, protecting and extending product life.
Parallax
Parallax is the displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight. It is measured by the dip or half dip between these two lines. Displays with air gaps have a significant amount of parallax that increases with changes in mounting tape thickness or cover lens specifications. In optical bonding, light passes through a single refractive index, eliminating parallax. The overall stack height is reduced compared to using foam mounting tape, which is another benefit of touch display products.
Optical bonding options are ideal for applications such as in-vehicle displays, public digital signage, and outdoor kiosks.
WIWO Touch provides optical bonding solutions to optimize display functionality and performance. Bonding improves readability in sunlight by up to 400%, durability by up to 800%, and improved resistance to physical shock, vibration, moisture, heat and humidity.
