OGS LCD Display

- May 21, 2020-

To fully understand in cell / on cell / OGS and other screens, you need to know the basic structure of the screen.

From the top to the bottom, the basic structure of the screen is divided into three layers: protective glass (the part marked with cover glass in the top orange yellow), touch layer (a little bit of light blue dotted line in the figure, the part marked with X and y), display panel.

There's nothing to say about protecting glass. Corning gorilla glass is. The touch layer is composed of ITO touch film and ITO glass substrate. The display panel can be subdivided to a high degree. Here, it is only roughly arranged below: from top to bottom, it is the upper glass substrate (the area marked with color filter in pink, i.e. color filter substrate), the liquid crystal layer (blue bar), and the lower glass substrate (the area marked with array in pink, i.e. thin film transistor substrate). Finally, it needs to be pointed out that between the protective glass / touch layer and the display panel, the general bonding technology will form a layer of air (i.e. the golden area marked in the figure). If the full bonding technology is used to remove this layer of air, the screen reflection will be greatly reduced, when the screen is lit, it will appear more transparent, when the screen is off, it will be darker, and there is no gray and white appearance.

The traditional g / g, GFF screens are all standard protective glass + touch layer + display panel layer structure, the difference is touch layer. The touch layer of g / g screen consists of one ITO glass substrate + one ITO touch film, while the touch layer of GFF screen consists of two ITO glass substrates + two ITO touch films (ITO: X and ITO: y). Obviously, the g / g screen is thinner.

Today, the OGS screen and in cell / on cell screen advertised by various manufacturers are worth boasting because they are all the structure of protective glass layer + display panel layer, with one touch layer less and lighter. Where is the middle touch layer? This is the key to distinguish the in cell / on cell screen from the OGS screen. In cell / on cell screen integrates touch layer and display panel, OGS screen integrates protective glass layer and touch layer. In order to compete for the right of industrial discourse, touch module manufacturers push OGS, while display panel manufacturers such as LG, Samsung and sharp push in cell / on cell.
