The principle of PCAP technology:
PCAP(Projected capacitive touch screen) use two layers of electrodes (X and Y) that create a capacitive electromagnetic field around them. When a finger, stylus, or other conductive object hovers or touches the screen, an electrical charge is created that enables the processing system to recognize, record and react to the signal. For example, when a finger passes through an electromagnetic field, a change in capacitance occurs.
As for multi-touch, in simple terms, is to divide the screen into blocks, and set a set of mutual capacitance modules in each area to work independently, so the capacitive screen can independently detect the touch situation in each area, and after processing, multi-touch is possible.
Due to their numerous advantages, PCAP sensors have almost completely replaced resistive touch sensors over the years. PCAP can support multi-touch, gestures and 3D proximity sensing, and provides excellent reliability and durability. This makes them ideal for automotive, self-checkout, medical, and industrial applications that require more functionality than buttons and single-touch points.
