Structure design of capacitive touch screen

- Sep 01, 2023-

A capacitive touch screen is an advanced input device that uses capacitive technology to detect the position and movement of the user's finger, pen, or other object. It is widely used in various devices, such as smart phones, tablets, game controllers, self-service ticket machines and so on. While realizing the capacitive touch screen function, its structural design is also very important. Below, we will briefly describe the structural design of capacitive touch screen, including touch screen glass, ITO electrode, transparent conductive film and backlight.

First, touch screen glass. Touch screen glass is usually made of traditional chemically reinforced glass or sapphire materials. These materials have high hardness and anti-scratch properties, which can effectively protect the internal structure of the touch screen from external shocks. The glass surface of the touch screen is usually coated with anti-fingerprint and anti-glare coatings to improve the user experience.

The second is ITO electrode. The ITO electrode is a transparent conductive material that is usually coated on the internal glass surface of the touch screen. It can form a set of capacitors that, when the user's finger touches the glass surface, changes the capacitance value between the capacitors. By detecting changes in the capacitance value, the position and movement of the user's finger can be determined.

Transparent conductive film is an important component for ITO electrode connection. It is usually made of materials such as polyimide (PET) or polyethylene terephthalate (PC) and has characteristics such as transparency, softness, high strength and high durability. The film is used as a medium connected to the ITO electrode and connects the two ends of the ITO electrode forming a capacitor together.

Finally, the backlight. In order to provide good visibility in dim environments, the touch screen needs to add a backlight to illuminate the entire screen. The backlight usually uses LED or OLED technology and is deployed on the back of the touch screen. Backlight has the advantages of high brightness, long life and power saving.

In addition to the main components above, the structure of the touch screen also includes some key design parts. For example, the structure of the touch screen must be robust and shock-proof enough to withstand external shocks in different environments. At the same time, the connector and interface design of the touch screen must also have sufficient reliability and stability to ensure the smooth interconnection between the screen and other devices.

In summary, the capacitive touch screen is composed of several components, including touch screen glass, ITO electrode, transparent conductive film and backlight. These components need to take into account performance, quality and reliability in the structural design to ensure that the capacitive touch screen can provide accurate, fast and stable input experience in a variety of use environments.
