Projected Capacitive (Multi-touch) Technology
Capacitive touchscreens consist of two conductive layers (ITO-coated film or glass) bonded together using an optically clear adhesive. These layers are usually behind and optically bonded to the coverslip. The transparent conductive coating on each active layer is laser etched to form a matrix of mutually perpendicular rows and columns. As the finger approaches the touchscreen surface, it changes the mutual capacitance between two adjacent electrodes. The controller detects these changes and converts them into position data. The touchscreen resolution is determined by a combination of the number of rows, columns, and software interpolation of the raw data. The connection to the controller is achieved through a glued flexible tail.
